the strike!

you probably won't be able to link to this for too long--but what is happening today (june 13, 2008) are strikes all over britain over the poor wages Shell fuel tankers get paid. in response, other truck drivers will be driving on the M6 at 40mph to protest the high price of fuel. and there are protests in the phillipines over the high price of fuel. what this means for the people of britain is no fuel is being delivered to Shell stations. so they will run out of gas today.

hallelujah. somebody's doing something.

so what i am wondering is when will we get up and protest/strike over the ridiculous price of fuel--over ridiculously poor wages--over the unnecessarily recessed economy? over the widening gap between the rich and the poor. over the unnecessarily widening gap between CEOs and their white collar workers. how come in the US the only union strikers that get any attention are television writers? has 60 years of television made us so sedated that we can't be bothered?

have we really built our united states on the 'each for their own' mentality? 300 million egoists. that can't be good!

but anyway...
